The ultimately heartwarming comedy from filmmakers Josh Gordon and Will Speck follows an unmarried woman of forty, who dreams of having a baby of hers. Seeing no opportunity to get married and become pregnant the usual way, Kassie realizes one day, she can wait no longer. Her big hope is an artificial insemination. But for a sperm donor of her future child the woman chooses a sperm of a handsome and married man called Roland, instead of her very close but hopelessly pessimistic friend Wally.
Wally has another opinion concerning his role in this story, and makes his own decision to become a father of Kassie’s child. On the party, devoted to the coming great event in the life of Kassie, he changes the donor sperm for his own. Due to certain circumstances he has to keep his secret for quite a long period of time. The woman soon leaves New York for another place, where she gives birth to a boy.
Seven years later she comes back to the city with her son Sebastian, who has inherited the traits of his biological father, both physical and psychological. Wally appears in the life of Kassie and her son, and now he has to prove to them, he could be a good friend, father and maybe even more…
The plot of the film is based on the original short story “Baster”, written by Jeffrey Eugenides. The film stars Jennifer Aniston, Jason Bateman and Thomas Robinson.
