The film, written and directed by acclaimed filmmakers Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden, is a story both funny and dramatic of a sixteen-year-old Craig, who suffers from constant stress and depression. One day the pressures of growing up become unbearable, and Craig makes a decision to check himself into a mental health clinic. While his parents and young sister are sleeping in their beds, he is bicycling to the Argenon Hospital. After being admitted by a hospital psychiatrist, Craig is offered to stay for minimum five days in the clinic. But the youth ward of the clinic is temporarily closed, so he is placed into the ward for adults. There the teenager befriends with Bobby – one of the patients, who becomes his guide and mentor soon. Besides, the main hero meets another suffering person within the walls of the clinic – a teenage girl of sixteen called Noelle, with whom he becomes very close soon and who helps him to forget about Nia, his longtime love.
“It's Kind of a Funny Story” touches upon teenager problems and hardships of real life, love and growing up.
The film stars Keir Gilchrist in the role of Craig Gilner; Jim Gaffigan and Lauren Graham as his parents; Zoë Kravitz as Nia; Zach Galifianakis in the role of Bobby and Emma Roberts as Noelle.
