Everything they pass through looks like a streak of bad luck. And fifteen-year-old Bill (Harrison Gilbertson), who is the youngest in the family, is appeared to be the only one, who keeps all the family together.  But the last accident, a witness of which Bill was, fractured all his family.
But life is going on. After a family tragedy the boy tries to establish good relations with all its members and develop mutual understanding between his distant brother, sorrowful mom and stoic father.
But as soon as Billy starts to behave different and provide his actions with emotions, everything changes in the family of Conway. Being always an obedient boy, Billy changes his behavior all of a sudden and starts to keep relations with a neighbor, who is uncontrolled and known by his trouble making. His sister Gloria (Geena Davis) is not much the better with her sharp tongue. The family will have to go through many difficulties, including sense of guilty and true, to be able to reunite.
